On this one, I would like to talk about how to flash a custom ROM on your Asian smartphone. In this case I’m using an Elephone P9000 but the tools I use are used among many Asian smartphone manufacturers.

Hint: We do not take any responsibility for any kind of damages on your device. Do this at your own risk.

What you need

  • A PC with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10
  • USB-Cable
  • A ROM to flash
  • The needed drivers and flashing software (more during the process)

Step 1 – Make a backup

During the process of flashing your phone, you will lose all your data, so it’s best to make a backup.

Step 2 – Install drivers

First of all you have to install the needed drivers on your computer. You can download generic ones here, but if you can use the ones provided by your smartphone manufacturer. If you use Windows 7 you can go straight forward and simply install them. If you use Windows 8 or higher, you have to disable driver signature verification first. To do this, get to the advanced boot options menu. One way of doing this, is to hold down the Shift key while clicking the “Restart” option in Windows. Then select “Troubleshoot”, then “Advanced options”, then “Startup settings” and click the “Restart” Button. Once your computer booted up again, press “7” or “F7” on your keyboard. In the corner of your screen should appear the “Test Mode” watermark. You can now proceed with the driver installation. If you downloaded the generic drivers from this site, they are located in the “Driver” folder. Should this fail, run your command prompt as administrator and type in  bcdedit /set testsigning on. Ignore any warning while installing the drivers. After installing the drivers restart your PC.

Step 3 – Flash your phone

Make sure your phone has at least 30% battery remaining. Now open the “flash_tool.exe” inside the “Flash_Tool” folder as administrator. Click on “Download Agent” and select “MTK_AllInOne_DA.bin”. In case you can’t find it, it’s located inside the “Flash_Tool” folder. Then click the “Scatter-loading” Button and select a scatter file. This is located in the folder of your ROM you want to flash. In the dropdown menu select “Download only”. Leave the boxes as ticked. Then click on “Download”. Now turn your phone of and remove the battery and connect it to your PC. In case you can’t remove your phones battery, hold down the volume up and volume down keys while connecting your phone. The software will now start to flash your phone and you can see the progress at the bottom of the program. Once done, you will see a green check mark. You can now disconnect your phone and boot it up. To enable driver signature verification, simply restart your PC. Should this not work open the command prompt as administrator and type in bcdedit /set testsigning off and restart again.
